Paliwa is the name of an everyday wear bubu/gown. This bubu is made from bogolan prints fabric. Bogolan comes from the Bamanan weavers of Mali (West Africa). The term is made up of two words: "Bogo" meaning "earth, clay" and "lan" meaning "made with". It refers both to a women's loincloth and to the ancestral dyeing technique used to create it. The bubu is named after Dikalo. Dikalo means message in Duala/Sawa language from Cameroon. In various African culture (Sawa, Grassphields...) when a message needs to be shared to the community, a messenger walks in the streets, with a bell that he rings. Here Dikalo refers to the message brought to us by the Ngaame (spider) in various Cameroonian cultures (Mambila, Bafia, Ewondo, Bamoun).
