Made using ‘fugu’ fabric from the Upper West region of Ghana, this shirt was handmade in our studio in Accra with love.
History has it that fugu was introduced into Ghana by the Moshies who migrated from Burkina Faso and settled in the northern part of the country & the Hausas from northern Nigeria. Women in the North later used the local cotton to make threads, which were woven as Fugu for all genders & people. Fugu means ‘cloth’ in Moshie language. The Dagombas call it Bingba, while people from the south often refer to it as Batakari.

Exceeded my expectations on so many levels! Ahead of placing my order, it was made clear that it would arrive a month later as Cisse, being so popular was a pre-order item. My package came through much earlier than expected. Given that other items I'd bought are still en-route, yet had no time warning, I've really been impressed by this seller!
On the products, Cisse is a more tribal print and more raw - that's beautiful but I find it less functional for being so heavy. It's better for nights especially in Africa where the weather is mostly warm.
The second piece, I really love! It's lighter so it falls better on the body & it will definitely be worn more in this climate! It's print is not as raw as the Cisse, so it can also be worn to work without appearing too casual. It shocked me that I loved it so much as I bought it just because it was a last piece and I couldn't decide which I was drawn to more. I'd recommend this seller for being so professional and of course for the priceless pieces!
